C is for Creepy Baby

My first two posts of the A to Z Challenge were very middle-of-the-road, i.e., dull.

That's over now.

I want to give thanks to my very funny blog friend Amy at Banana Wheels for the inspiration for this post, especially since, when I saw the pin, I immediately sent it to her before I had even considered doing the Challenge.  (If you would like to see the birth of the original Creepy Baby, and you really should do yourself a favor and do so, please read about it right here.)

Okay, so here's the pin:

Here's the problem with the pin: it's only a photo. No directions, although, really, how hard can it be to replicate?

I can tell you not hard AT ALL, but that's because I have the best daddy in the world and he helped me.

We bought the dolls at the thrift store:

The one on the right laughs. Maniacally.

Feeling very much like a brain surgeon, I marked
the heads and my dad scalped them removed the
tops with a Dremel. My husband texted this
to my kids - they were appalled.

Heads removed from bodies (we crossed from
being brain surgeons to being Dr. Frankenstein).

Upping the creep factor.

Assembling the rest of the supplies.

Kind of wishing I had put down some newspaper
at this point.

NAILED. IT.

My husband said this was, technically, a Pinterest win, because it did turn out like the pin. However, he said it is NOT a win for the house, because he is completely creeped out by the whole thing.

You know what this means, don't you?

My herb garden will be expanding as soon as I make another trip to the thrift store....

  1. Creepy doll heads for the win. That would be something fun to leave for a neighbor on their porch without a note.

  2. That is unbelievable hysterical. I'm not sure I want creepy baby head planters in my house (have to side with your husband there) but I am intrigued and can't look away. I like your version better than Pinterest where you have the doll heads sitting in the pots.

Love that your Dad helped you out with the doll surgery. It helps to have a handy dad.

    1. I have to keep the planters around simply because they creep out my husband and kids. Totally worth it! I saw another example where they had also turned the legs into planters, but that may be going too far....

  3. I can't decide if these are hysterical or the creepiest thing I've ever seen. I'm definitely agreeing with your husband about not having them in the house!

    1. They are both. And they are currently residing in my kitchen windowsill. I've stopped jumping when I walk in the room and see them out of the corner of my eye!

  4. These make me so happy. Creepy Baby is delighted too. Did you save the bodies? I bet there's something creepy you can make with them for another letter in your challenge...

    1. The bodies are in my dad's shop. They have appendages that need to be used for something....

  5. Oh my goodness they are a little creepy! I think they would have to reside outside though. I would get a fright if I saw them during the night LOL:)

  6. I've seen those before and laugh everytime as I have a friend who'd love them. I should pick up a couple of dolls over the summer and make them for her for Halloween. thanks for reminding me of how easy they actually are to make. Hubby has all the tools, so I'll give them to him for that part. Enjoyed your escapades. I'm writing on my fav childhood book - Nancy Drew. Hope you will stop by. I'll be back. https://everyonehasafamilystorytotell.wordpress.com/category/2018-a-to-z-all-about-nancy-drew/

    1. They popped up on Pinterest one day, and I immediately thought of my blog friend Amy and sent it to her. Found it again when I was gathering A to Z material, and I just had to do it. I think my dad had as much fun as I did! I'll be by to visit your blog!

  7. I think you should use the rest of the body to have a plant growing out of the neck. And then you can plant the Torso in the pot. Because that head thing is really creeping me out. You know a decapitated torso is so much less creepy!zoe

  8. Ack! I'm with your husband, those heads would freak me out too, from the operation to the display. One of my cousins had doll parts planted throughout her garden. Creepy.

  11. Oh Dear! I've been seeing these on Facebook, and I'm with your hubby, it definitely gives me the creeps. I don't even want to see normal, full-bodied dolls in the house looking at me at night. However, I absolutely loved the photos of you and your dad working together on this project, has to be one of the all-time best father/daughter experiences I've ever seen... so much fun! I love your dad for being a willing partner, my own dad would have surely called the psych unit to reserve a space for me. :-)
