A Good Sandwich Saves The Day And Other Thankfuls

I hate reality tv shows, and wouldn't you know, my husband, ever the keeper of the remote, has fallen asleep in a chair while one of the most ridiculous and contrived reality shows plays too loudly across the room from us. I can't reach the remote, so the sooner I get this week's Ten Things of Thankful list done, the sooner I can get up and slip the remote from his hand. Here goes:

1. I'm still missing my writing mojo, but I was able to make two posts this week, one I started months ago and never quite completed and the other I wrote yesterday after completing a rather messy preschool project.

2. I took a deep breath and signed up for this year's A to Z Challenge. I'm PRETTY sure this goes on the thankful list....

3. I found a comforter and pillow shams for my daughter on sale at Sears for $14.97. I would have been even MORE thankful if she had preferred the one that was $6.92, but $14.97 is nothing to sneeze at.

4. Thanks to a teacher in-service day in the public school system on Monday, we had a four day week, although by Friday, it seemed like the longest four day week on record.

5. "Friends" on Netflix.

6. My daughter played in her first volleyball tournament of the club ball season. The day did not go well, as far as volleyball was concerned, but I did have a pretty good sandwich from the snackbar while I was there.

7. After the long, long day of volleyball, we found a Vietnamese restaurant in the town where the tournament was being held. And we had big bowls of pho, something we love but can only get where we live during the annual Marian Days festival in August, when the Ozarks weather is nothing short of delightful for an outdoor festival featuring bowls of boiling hot soup (as in 90+ degrees and high humidity).

8. While I'm in a thankful-for-food mode, I will add that I am thankful for cereal. As I write this, I am also munching on a bowl of dry Frosted Flakes - GrrrrrrrrrrrrEAT!

9. Earlier this week, the weather forecast for the weekend included a pretty good chance of rain turning to snow. Since we are out of town at a volleyball tournament, this was not a cheery forecast; however, it has since been amended to a chance of rain only. Who wants to drive in that crap, and more importantly, who wants to waste a weekend with snow when it doesn't net you a snow day?!

10. Which leads to my last thankful: spring begins in 48 days!

Did you have a long short week? Or a short long week? Look back and find your thankfuls, then link up below.

  1. Why is it that short weeks feel longer than regular weeks? I always felt that way. Is that a teacher thing or an everybody thing?
I can't believe the prices on those bed sets - that's pretty amazing. I'd love to find something like that for our room.
Cereal? I have to laugh because cereal is right up there with ice cream on my list of things I would rather not eat. I would love to go to that Marian festival though - it sounds awesome.
Snow should never happen on a weekend. Such a waste.
And just for the record, I love Friends.
    Have a good week!

    1. It was endless.
      $6.92! Wish they'd had queen.
Believe it or not, I'm picky about my cereal :) But there are some I love. Ice cream? You get to eat pizza and ice cream every day in Heaven! How can you not like ice cream?
You know it! Snow on the weekend ruins plans. Snow on a weekday means no school!
      Sistahs!

  2. Ohhh SPRINGSPRINGSPRING! I need it BACK! Good grief I hope it's quick. Ack!

Glad you had a nice sandwich and good cereal and that your week is OVER. Hope the next one doesn't feel so awfully long.

    LOVE Friends. Good call.

    1. Just over a month awayyyyyy!
I'm not much of a sandwich eater, so when I find one I really, really like, well, it's worth being on the list.
      Friends = the best!

  3. I am counting those 48 days. Does your husband watch Housewives of New Jersey? My daughter often falls asleep, remote not in sight, and the ad nausea-um antics of plastic women play on. Good bargains, good food, short weeks. I loved the heart feet.

    1. He had on something stupid about the Wahlburgs and some restaurant they were opening in Vegas or something. It was ridiculous, he was snoring away, and I couldn't reach the remote without a lot of effort, including getting UP.
I love those heart feet, too!

  5. Hey Dyanne! Why don't we start a chapter of the "Missing the Mojo Misfits". lol.
Not that I'm implying you are a misfit or me for that matter!
Thanks for counting the days until, ya know, the world gets back to normal:)
Good choice on the cereal.(the after milk is most excellent. pure sugar)
I've totally enjoyed getting to know Lisa but this?!:
"cereal is right up there with ice cream on my list of things I would rather not eat."
How do we help her?! She is missing out on 2 of the most valuable food groups ever created:)
Sign me up for the A to Z thing. As a cheerleader!

    1. Can we have our meetings some place warm?
I prefer certain cereals dry, some only with milk. Food rules, you know.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT ABOUT LISA?
Cheer me on in the a to z challenge by telling me what I should write about!

  6. Every one is all excited by four day weekends...Me...That is an extra full day to keep the kid engaged.....I can only answer so many nine year old questions a day before my patience is gone.

    1. A four day week only means I have to cram five days' worth of stuff into four, but it still feels good to have one!

  7. Pho is definitely more suited to winter than summer. Glad you could enjoy it in an appropriate season!

So, will Phil see his shadow tomorrow?

    1. The pho was fabulous, although the plate of fresh herbs had something unidentifiable on it that we skipped.
      That stupid groundhog needs glasses!

  8. You totally inspired me to make some hot and sour soup. Thanks. I have been needing to eat something but couldnt settle. I thought I commented here already but who the hell knows... I am such a zombie this weekend. A to Z is already up? I gotta sign on too. I found it easier with a theme last year. But I dont know ...

    1. You may have commented and I accidentally deleted it. The downside to using my phone to approve messages when I'm too vain to wear bifocals and sometimes miss and hit 'delete" instead of "publish."
      I'm open for theme ideas.

  10. Oh, I'm so looking forward to Spring. There is ice everywhere, but my thoughts turned to crocuses this week, and I wonder when I might see one or two poking through. Chips, salsa, beer, and football for me at the moment. I don't really care about the Superbowl, but it's a nice background to my commenting and a chance to indulge in utterly shameful food choices.

    1. I haven't looked outside yet to see if anything green is poking up. We haven't had but a flake or two of snow this year, so our spring may come early (she said hopefully).
Only a handful of people watch the Superbowl for the game. It's all about food and commercials.

  11. Ohhhh cereal, you got me there! My absolutely favorite childhood cereal was on sale the other day, and I stocked up just enough to fulfill the craving but don't make it something every-day. I'm sorry the volleyball tournament didn't go well, but at least there was good food :-) Have a wonderful week, Dyanne! (Sleeping Calvin says so, too!!)

    1. What was your favorite cereal, Stephanie?
The volleyball is just going to be something to get through this year. Wish it would be a better experience for all of us.
      xxx to Calvin!

    1. Pho is delicious! Don't wear good clothes, unless you are much neater at eating brothy, noodly soup with chopsticks than I am!
I'm so envious of your snow days!

  13. Thank you for the reminder about Friends on Netflix! I can't commit to an hour-long series that will suck me in for weeks on end, so old reruns sounds just right.
