The Usual: Volleyball And Food And Ruby. Always Ruby.

Zowee, this week went by quickly! And it wasn't because it was particularly busy, because it wasn't. Just the usual: work, chauffering my daughter around, finding excuses to avoid cleaning house, continuing to fail at stupid Level 347 of Candy Crush. And now it's the weekend and time to give you my Ten Things of Thankful. I know you've been waiting....

1. My daughter had a volleyball tournament last weekend. The girls didn't place, but they played better than they have so far all club ball season. I'm thankful they are finally using their school ball rotation during club ball and can now work to hone their skills, as was the original plan.

2. I got to add to my photography collection while at the volleyball tournament:

This way all day. Seriously, how do you not feel
it when you're that exposed?

3. Twice:

Keep it covered, lady, keep it covered.

4. I've been having a lot of pain in my hips (side effect of taking Arimidex). I was researching about increasing the amount of Vitamin D I take to see if that would help when I ran across information (from reliable sites) that said to take naproxen (as in Aleve) for pain relief. Well, that's easy enough! I started taking it twice a day and have had noticeable improvement, so, yay!

5. I'm very thankful that I already learned that Aleve can be your friend or be your enemy, depending on how you take it. I now know better than to eat a lot of Hot Tamales and then take a couple of Aleve, washed down with Diet Coke, because that combination will rot your gut in the form of an ulcer, and THAT takes weeks to straighten out, or so I've heard....

6.Silly Socks or Slippers Day at preschool. This picture, no lie, took us ten minutes to pose. With me standing on a chair to get all 16 pairs of feet into the picture. Totally worth it.

7. Modern Family. I don't watch a lot of tv, but I try to catch Modern Family as often as I can. I think I like Cam the best. Yes, definitely Cam.

8. My sweet baby Ruby got her kitty maker removed on Thursday, along with her front claws. And I don't want to hear from you anti-declawers. Pete can catch a fly in his paws and pop it in his mouth without claws. I suspect Ruby will be much the same, with the added bonus that she won't be climbing me like a tree anymore. The vet called a little before noon and said Ruby did great and was already trying to sit up. I can't wait to pick her up tomorrow and look forward to seeing the reaction of the boys (especially Pete, who hates her) at her being infirm.

9. All right, I wrote #8 on Thursday, before I brought Ruby home from the vet. She is in no way infirm. She is very nearly her old self, except a little drowsy still from the anesthesia and the pain meds. She even played a little fetch with me right after we got home. The boys have stayed away from her; Pete is probably hoping her return is just a bad dream and Fletcher has not realized she can no longer inflict the same kind of damage on him as she was able to do two days ago.

Aww, you can see her shaved belly in this picture!

10. I made cupcakes for a friend and her family, and her 16 year old daughter thought they were made by Cupcakes by Liz, which is a HUGE compliment! Thanks, Kara, you made my day!

You have a cupcake compliment kind of moment (or ten) this week? Or maybe more of an I like Modern Family and avoided housework as much as possible kind of week? Either way, link up your Ten Things of Thankful here and join in the best blog hop EVAH.

    1. Thank you! Who could imagine that would have been so difficult to set up?

  2. The slipper photo was great! The backside ones, well, hmmm. . . you have a collection of them? Why?

  3. The way you describe Pete and Ruby just reminds me so strongly of Garfield and Nermal, which is a hilarious train of thought to venture down.

I'm so glad you've found something which helps your hip aches, and that you got a MASSIVE compliment on your cupcakes. Very cool.

And laughing a butt-crack pictures hurts my soul. I wish people would dress more sensibly so they didn't get targetted.

    1. Pete just can't seem to get over the fact that Ruby lives here now. And it's been four months now.

I don't know why I didn't try Aleve before. Probably because it once ate a hole in my innards. I'm planning to be very careful with it this time.

People really shouldn't make themselves such targets, although I think a few of them do it on purpose.

    1. The hip pain comes and goes, so I won't have to take the Aleve all the time, or at least I hope not.

  6. I love Modern Family and hoped you watched this past week, because seriously one of the funnier episodes this season. If you didn't watch don't want to give away too much, but will Cam and an outbreak of lice are front and center!! :)

  7. Ah, the fault of the too tight and too short tee shirt. Great compliment on the cupcakes...wish I could ask you to send some to Singapore! Glad Ruby is getting better too!

  8. Ha! You'd think at a kids' volleyball game these skanks would keep their whale tails hidden!

    1. I think the woman in picture #1 was completely aware that she was flashing her whale tail. Because she did it all day long and didn't even try to pull down her shirt. Think she was proud of it and her Miss Me jeans.

  9. YAY to anything that helps with pain! And to silly socks, too cute!

But you know why I'm here. RUBY THE KITTTIIIIEEEE!

Poor lil munchkin! But they're resilient as hell. She'll sleep it off and be back to her mischief ways in no time.

And wassup with only one kitty photo? I NEEDS ME KITTY PHOTOS.

    1. Ruby is still sleeping off the anesthesia and pain meds, but I will work on something just for you, Beth. I'm trying to get video of her playing fetch, but I need someone else to be the camera operator.

  10. I've not seen Modern Family before but when Criminal Minds is on its reruns I'll check it out. I was just talking to a girlfriend the other day about the different days we used to have in HS ... like backwards day, frizzy hair day etc. Silly Sock day looks like a fun one.
Glad to read that Ruby is doing okay. She's a sweetie!

    1. Modern Family is hilarious! I wish it were on Netflix. I'd like to watch the whole thing again from the very beginning. My daughter's high school has Spirit Week a few times a year with dress up themes. Of course, everything still has to meet dress code, which takes the fun out of some of it (no hats, for example). Ruby is doing great! She's at about 70% normal capacity of energy. I think by Tuesday, she'll be back to normal.

  12. Love your butt cleavage photos, as I just said and lost my comment. argh! It was long! Loving Modern Family the more I drench myself in it. I just saw the one where they all ended up in the pool last night and it was wonderful. Love your sweet Ruby--she is dreamy--you take GREAT PHOTOS!!!

It's amazing what kind of pictures you can take with a little ol' phone, isn't it?

  13. Congrats to your daughter for playing well in the tournament. It's so imporant to realize that not the final result is important but a) the fun and b) that one is happy with one's own performance. I hope Ruby is her own kitty self again soon! I will make a request to Richard that we get kitties that are already "fixed" (hate that word, btw), so I won't have to be the one taking them to the vet, poor little ones! Love the pictures of funny slipper day. I think Lily has the same slippers as one of the girls in the picture (the pink bunny ones; the ears move up with each step, they are SO hilarious!!). Hilarious butt shots by the way! I got a similar one from a guy at the Space Needle restaurant :-) Have a great weekend, Dyanne!

    1. Thanks, Stephanie! It was so hard to leave her at the vet's! I thought I'd get a few minutes with her when I got there, because she was scared and snuggled up against me, but they whisked her right away. She's been pretty much stuck like glue to me since she came home yesterday.

Yes, those bunny ears move with each step! It made a little noise each time, too. So cute!

My friends are always nervous that I'm going to take a picture of them if their butt crack shows, but I never do that to my friends. Now strangers, they're fair game....

  14. I love little Ruby! She is so cute and I'm glad she is feeling alright after her surgeries. The funny socks/slippers day is adorable. I bet the kiddos enjoyed that! Aleve is my go to when I have a pain that just won't go. But yes, I would imagine that mixed with Hot Tamales and Diet Coke it could be unpleasant!

    1. Ruby is in my lap as I try to type this. Preschoolers always like it when you do something a little "different" with their day. Aleve is awesome, except it does nothing for a headache, which I had yesterday in addition to the hip pain. Fortunately, I called my pharmacist friend to ask what to take for it before I overmedicated myself (usually I call her AFTER I've taken something and say, "I took _____ and _____, was that okay?" to which she says, "Um, noooo, don't do that anymore.")

  15. no to (receiving) Cupcake-based Compliments, but I love the photo (and underlying concept) of Silly Socks day! (For reasons still not available), in High School I specialized in very extreme socks. Your Post is inspiring me to return the couture de feet once again.

hey! VidChat Friday, right? def looking forward to it.

  16. Rather an eclectic array of photos Dyanne:) Photo #2 - it's a weird kind of "fashion" statement, right? Like wearing your pants around your ass with a shirt that would fit godzilla. I mean, who in their right mind wouldn't know all that was out in the open!
Cup cakes, recuperating cats and little people slipper socks. Nice list. Nice.

    1. I truly believe the woman in the first picture wanted everyone to look at her butt (it wasn't that impressive, even in her $100 jeans). The second one, meh, could happen to anyone, but eventually, you should FEEL like you were exposed. Or just know that shirts ride up and pants ride down and give everything a periodic tug.

  17. OH! MY! GAWD! The whaletale gave me a spit take. I haven't seen one of those in a while.

A friend of mine's husband is a plummer and he says, "Plummers say no to crack." If plummers say no, then everyone else needs to pay attention.

Perfect snuggly kitty. Glad she is doing so well.

Yay for club volleyball working out so well. It is so rewarding to see our taxi-ing and patient waiting turning into success.

  18. That sock picture is so totally worth it!

I really don't understand how those people didn't feel a breeze. Or how they didn't check their jeans out in a sitting down position in the dressing room before taking them home. Scary.

    1. If you only knew how close I came to falling off the chair I was standing on when I took that picture (good example I was setting, right?).

When it happens to me (and it does), I think 'Oh, crap' and yank my shirt down and my pants up. Because I can TELL it has happened.

  19. OMG to the two exhibitionists!

  20. Sorry to hear you're feeling aches and pains from the Arimidex, but it sounds like you've had good success with the Aleve. I find it helps with the joint pain I get from Tamoxifen, also and I don't have any weird side effects from it. Love the picture of all the socks, so cute!

  21. Those pictures are SOLID GOLD! I will be pinning those pictures to Pinterest, hopefully the owners of those butts won't mind, they seem pretty willing to share a smile with the world! haha that's great about the volleyball club, progress and teamwork are the most important, the winning/trophies are just a bonus if they happen.
I was literally wondering HOW LONG it took to take that preschool sock picture. It is ADORABLE, but my 2 & 4 year olds would have been laughing/wrestling/rolling all over the place!
Glad the cat recovered quickly. And CONGRATS on the cupcakes. I'm baking-challenged, and that is priceless as a life skill!

    1. Here's the rest of my collection: http://iwantbacksies.blogspot.com/2013/08/all-its-cracked-up-to-be.html I take my hobbies very seriously. Well, hobby, since it's the only one I have.

When you realize that the subjects in my picture were moving targets, that ten minutes was FAST.

Kitty is doing better every day. Will be glad when the fur grows back on her belly, though. She looks so vulnerable with a nekkid belly!

If I could send you cupcakes, I would.

  22. Aw, glad Ruby's doing OK. Poor kitty. I loved the part about Aleve and Hot Tamales and Diet Coke - yeah, that's definitely a recipe for stomach issues. I would totally do something like that. Oh, wait, yeah, I DO do things like that. LOL. Sorry about your aches and pains -- hate weeks like that. But yes, Aleve can be a good friend.
OK, now, the pants people? Seriously, how do you NOT feel the breeze on your tuchus??? It always amazes me that people seem so totally oblivious.
    Have a wonderful week!

    1. Ruby has really taken the whole thing better than I have.

Who would have thought that would have been such a deadly combination? It took several weeks of taking two different meds every day to heal the hole I burned in my tummy.

People like that give me a chance to practice my ninja photography skills.

  23. I should have added Ruby to my list, since I come here every week for my Ruby fix. Hope she's up and up to mischief again soon!
How great that you've got some relief from your pain, pain is not fun.

  25. There's so much to comment on here. First off on #10 Woot woot! I'd be over the moon if anyone ever said that about my cakes or cupcakes. I'm still at the "how cute, she's trying" stage of cake decorating.

The slipper photo was definitely worth the effort - awesome!

As for the plumber butt shots - yeah, right there in the WTF?! with you. I don't get it either. But I'm much more curious about what the first girl is sitting on because THAT looks really nice. Is it a blanket? I know, not the point of the photo - but my mom knits and crochets and stuff so I grew up around crafties....and I also like purple .. and Lizzi has taught me through this hop to find the "good" in things - and in THAT shot, it's that knitting thing she's sitting on.

  26. Love the socks photo...you are right, totally worth it.

Glad to hear the Aleve is working...it has never done a thing for me, but my parents swear by it. Glad you are feeling the Aleve-love too. :)

We should have gotten my boy together with Ruby...they could have been drugged up together. Next time...dealio?

  27. Those photos are too funny. Bravo for taking the pics. And my mother moved up to our small town and got a kitten from the Humane Society for company. She also had her front claws removed. Our two are clawing up the backdoor and the leather cushions in our new counter stools. UGH. Make me want to follow along with you ladies.
