Be Okay, Be Thankful

Earlier this week, I didn't believe by the weekend I could sit here and write a post about being thankful.

As hard as I try, sometimes, that silver lining is hard to find, and the glass looks a little more half empty than half full. Sometimes, Pollyanna is hiding in a corner, crying, sure nothing is going to be right again. And that, my friends, is exactly why the Ten Things of Thankful is a necessary part of my weekend.

Here's what (and whom) I'm thankful for this week:

Many emails have gone back and forth between me and Lisa from The Meaning of Me. We had a very, VERY meaningful conversation about...kitty litter. Valuable information was exchanged. You WILL be updated.

I received a picture that made me laugh out loud at a time when I REALLY needed a good laugh. Ivy from Uncharted, you made my day!

I had a missed call from Christine at In The Coop on my phone the other evening. Pretty sure I had been butt dialed (things like that happen, don't they, Lisa?), but I called her back and found she really DID mean to call me! I got to be the first to hear about the newest member of "The Coop."

My brother sent me a little gem from Mandolin Kamp (kid you not) to add to my collection.

This week was oncology appointment week. Everything is going just fine on the oncology front, which is a thankful in its own right, but while there, I got to see my favorite nurse, Sue Ann. I met her at one of my very first appointments three years ago. She was diagnosed with breast cancer about a year before me, had the very same reconstruction surgery by the very same plastic surgeon, then had chemo and radiation, all while STILL WORKING. She's pretty amazing, and while we have become Facebook friends, we rarely see each other in person, as our schedules never seem to collide. This week, it collided so hard that she was the one who gave me my injection. We talked and laughed and hugged. Nothing like a comrade in arms!

I know there are many people out there who won't agree with me, and may we respectfully agree to disagree, but I am thankful for the Supreme Court decision that makes gay marriage legal in all 50 states.

And let's not forget the Affordable Care Act was also upheld once again by the Supreme Court.

Friday afternoon, Facebook profile pictures began popping up with a rainbow filter over them. My daughter and I wanted one, too, so I asked Jen from Driftwood Gardens how in the heck did she do it, and she got back to me immediately with the low down (turns out it was ridiculously easy).

This is my jam.

  1. You have a collection of photos of butt cracks? Hilarious. If the opportunity arises, I'll contribute to this with a photo or two. I'll have to keep it in mind when I'm out and about.

    1. A little hobby of mine. I spend a lot of time sitting in bleachers, where there is often ample opportunity to take a butt crack picture. If I didn't have SOME standards, I would take them of preschoolers. I could take at least one a day!

  2. I'm pretty damn glad I finally followed your trail to the Ten Things of Thankful group. It's an amazing mood boost to sit and write that list every week. I've never done the Pollyanna persona well, but I am lighter in mood for participating.

    1. When Facebook posts that someone has changed their profile picture, and it's to the rainbow, the link to change it is right above the picture. Click, click, click. Piece of cake! Easy as pie! Hey, I'm hungry....

  8. I'm so glad that eventually, the TToT did happen for you this week, Dyanne! I wished I could post one of those adorable Calvin-in-a suit pictures I took Saturday right now, but they are still safely stored on the camera and I'm actually on my way to bed already.. NOT.

Hugs to you, Dyanne! Calvin is sending one of his big Mickey Mouse-smiles just for you!!!

  9. Love the song! That's been my week.

So many great expressions of love sent your way this week. It helps with the ok sometimes, at least that's what I tell myself.

I'm glad about the SCOTUS ruling simply because I am so tired of the pointless arguing. Maybe now things will simmer down and we can all begin to love our neighbor a little better.

  10. It makes me sad that people don't agree with the fact that LOVE IS LOVE but aside from that, how cool that you got to see the nurse that originally treated you? Also have I told you that we need to um talk. My bio mom and her sisters have all had the big hug BC chop them off stuff and I just want to chop my own now??? UGH.
Aw to the chickens (weird but awesome) and buttcrack pics? Always welcome.

    1. I loved getting to see Sue Ann! She didn't have nipple reconstruction surgery like I did and opted instead to get these magnificently colorful flower tattoos all over her boobies. They are gorgeous!
Email me. Call me. Text me. Smoke signal me.

  11. Hey, butt dials happen. They do. But you do know the most hilarious part of that was that it wasn't even my butt that did it! Happened right in front of my face like a normal call. But it wasn't. It was spooky. And weird. And hilarious.
I'm glad our kitty litter musings were cool enough to make your list. Hub says things are going "alright" and in answer to the question about whether they are using the box and liking it he says, "they seem to be." A man of few words... So that's what, two weeks with no problems? I'm still not ready to call it a total win because Fat Edgar will inevitably screw it up, but we could be close. Could be close.
I'm sorry you had a tough week. Seems a few of us did. I'm glad you found so much good in the end. XO

    1. What you did was butt dial-esque!
I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get the new litter tomorrow....
And thanks. Isn't it interesting how often the TToT-ers trend with bad weeks and good weeks? Hmmmm.

  12. Wow, that is quite a photo and I nearly choked on water when I realized you have a collection of them. I wonder what it'll be worth someday? It's gross but one definitely can't help but snap out of crabbiness when they see it. You have a good brother:)

    1. I seem to have a knack for noticing people with their butt cracks showing. And then I can't seem to resist taking a picture. I only do it to strangers, but all my friends are always cautious about being fully covered when they're around me.

  13. I'm glad your oncology appointment went well and that you got see your favorite nurse.

How long has your brother been playing the mandolin? I think my father-in-law used to play the mandolin when he was young.

    1. Thanks!
My brother has been playing the mandolin for about 6 or 7 years. He taught himself to play but now also takes lessons and goes to a FOR REAL camp in the summer, plus he plays once a month at a square dance in a nearby town. And he always HATED that kind of music! He started listening to classical music when he was in junior high and never listened to anything else until the mandolin changed that.
