A Good Week Of Thankfuls That Included No One Getting Arrested

If a week has to go by in a flash, one that includes small children in Halloween costumes at school is a good one for that. I mean, seriously, didn't I just write a Ten Things of Thankful, like, five minutes ago? No? Okay, then here's another one.

1. The electric mattress pad is on the list once again. We've had some chilly nights, and there's nothing like slipping between the sheets and having them be all warm and toasty! I get hot a couple hours after going to bed and turn it off, then I'll have an additional hot flash and shed my jammy bottoms next. Then I get cold around 5 a.m., and the mattress pad gets turned back on. But what a luxury to be able to make myself warmer and cooler as necessary!

2. Now, I'm not saying I'm glad my husband was out of town one night this week and I got the bed to myself (sort of), because I don't sleep well when he's gone, but I DO like having the whole bed to myself, especially since the two big boy kitties like the electric mattress pad even more than I do. When you ordinarily have to share your side of a queen sized bed with two cats with a combined weight of about 45 pounds, then having the opportunity to stretch out on the other half of the bed for one night is pretty sweet.

3. I told my Primary class that we would make our own snack on Tuesday, so I brought all the ingredients to make pumpkin muffins. Well, all EXCEPT for milk, of which I had none. My milk drinker is away at college, and we didn't have a drop in the refrigerator. No problem, I thought, there's always a jug of milk in the church kitchen, but when I went over there to get a cup, I found no milk. Checked the pantry, hoping for a can of evaporated milk or maybe even some powdered milk, which would work fine for muffins, but nope. I was contemplating whether Cremora would be a viable substitute when it occurred to me I could call one of my preschool moms and ask her to bring a cup with her when she brought her daughter. She was happy to do it and the muffins were saved!

4. Tuesday afternoon, I had finally had it with my cell phone and went to AT&T to get a new one. I decided I wanted the iphone 6s plus, which means I have given in to the fact that I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING ON MY CELL PHONE WITH MY OLD EYES. They didn't have any in stock, so one was ordered for me. I was expecting it to take a couple of weeks, but it was delivered on Thursday afternoon. Pretty speedy, huh?

5. We had our Pumpkin Parties at preschool on Wednesday for Pre-K and Thursday for Primary. I hate party days, but these went really well.

6. That last one is worth two, since there were two days of parties.

And you thought I was only a preschool teacher....

7. My husband had to go to Springfield for the afternoon on Thursday, so I rode with him, just for fun. On our way back, we stopped at a restaurant in a town halfway between Springfield and Joplin (pretty much the ONLY town between Springfield and Joplin). My tummy is STILL happy about that decision!

8. My husband's tummy was so happy about that meal that he, unbeknownst to me, undid his pants at some point on the way home and forgot about it until AFTER we had gone through the Wendy's drive-thru so we could bring Emma something to eat. The good news is that the drive-thru employees didn't seem to notice, so we weren't stopped by the police on our way home.

9. Let me be perfectly clear that his junk wasn't showing or anything, but his pants were very not buttoned or zipped. AND he was driving a company car, logo and all....

10. I took my new phone to AT&T on Friday so they could activate it. I backed my phone up to my laptop (or so I thought) right before I went, just in case. I expected them to put all my stuff from the old phone onto the new phone, which they did when my kids got new phones a year or so ago, but they don't do that anymore. Instead, I had to go home and do it myself. I was running some errands first when my husband called, but I couldn't HEAR him at all, although he could hear me just fine. Tried it again a few minutes later with the same result, so back to AT&T I went. I was explaining my problem when the guy who helped me saw me and came over to find out what was wrong. He grinned, took my phone from me, and peeled off a layer of plastic that was surrounding the phone. Oops. When I got home, it only took me just over THREE HOURS to get the new phone to have the same apps and stuff that the old phone had, but I finally accomplished it ALL BY MYSELF.  Now it will just be a matter of getting used to such a big phone, but I think the pay-off of being able to see the screen will make it all worth it.

How's your Halloween week been? Did you have 650 trick or treaters like I did (true story)? Link up YOUR thankfuls, right here, right now.

  1. Your ATT store is not nice. I got a new phone at mine yesterday, and they did it all. And we sat and made fun of weird people as they came in. All kinds of crazies were in that store.\

    1. I WAS DUPED! I was pretty much the ONLY person in the store, other than the employees, because it was a drizzly, cold Friday afternoon.

  3. I met that issue at AT&T but the guy took pitty on me...perhaps because it was my fourth replacement of the defective phone... You must be the most patient teacher ever... muffin making!???? I can barely do that with a kid in the room never mind participating with a million of them....

    1. Before the whole plastic wrap debacle, the guy gave me his card and told me to text him if I had a problem, so he was being as helpful as he was allowed, apparently.
There were only 7 three year olds, so it wasn't hard to make the muffins. I let them take turns adding ingredients and stirring. They were pretty excited, and only one of them sneezed while we were mixing them.

  4. 6 hundred and fifty?! what, do you live in Santa's Village?
I don't really get into the Halloween, Trick or Treat thing (no, really! it's the truth) but Phyllis does and Una is pretty well behaved. (dogs, as a rule, are not overly fond of strange people dressed strangely trying to get into their house…at night. lol) but she was calm.

    1. 650 was a slow night. I was expecting over 800. I live in a historic neighborhood with old fashioned streetlights. It's pretty cool on Halloween, with all those people walking up and down the sidewalks. We had a line of kids from our front door all the way to the street at one time.
Cats aren't really thrilled with the ringing of the doorbell, either. One of many reasons why we just sit outside on the front step and hand out candy.

  5. I did that plastic thing with the first iPhone I ever got. I want the 6s now, but my 6 is only a year old so I have to wait for an upgrade. Ho, hum. The husband pants story is pretty funny. I didn't know guys did that. lol Have a good weekend, you deserve it after two days of preschool Halloween and 650 trick or treaters.

    1. I only had a 5, so it was past time. I'm trying to get used to how BIG the 6s plus is. It's kind of the boom box in a walkman world. The pants thing was funny, except for the fear that Wendy's would call the cops because of a flasher in the drive-thru!

  6. i think i did that too ( can't remember squat lately) when i got my new phone I vaguely remember getting upset that the picture were blurry not focused ( for a second I thought it was my eyes) but then hubby pointed out a plastic thingy on the lens - I have a Samsung note 3 and looking to upgrade soon too....

the heated mattress cover sounds interesting ... i get hot flashes from time to time... but not night sweats so i like a nice cozy bed and i get that whole sharing the bed with our babies ...Teddy sleeps with us and some nights he's at the foot of the bed, then there's the nights he wants to cuddle with either one of us; lol he's only 20 lbs but he's dead weight when wants what he wants, he cannot be moved and i'm stuck with 2 inches on a queen size bed...lol

you looked cute in the costume and good going not getting arrested...too funny!

Well we gained an hour today lets make call it happy hour!!!!

    1. Obviously, truly brilliant, creative people don't notice plastic on their phones....
The heated mattress pad truly is awesome. I hate getting between icy cold sheets in the winter, and I don't like to wear socks to bed.
The Wonder Woman costume was actually a nightgown, so I'll be getting some more use outta that!
Loving that extra hour! I am one of the rare people who like it when daylight savings time ends, because I CANNOT get up and get ready in the morning when it's still dark outside.

  7. Great post title lol.
Electric mattress pad sounds safer than the electric blanket of my youth. Always got nervous about twisting the blanket in my sleep, shorting it out, fire and flammable pajamas. Like "regular" blankets better :)
Glad you got the phone all squared away. I love having a big screen!

    1. It's always a good week when no one gets arrested, right?
Electric blankets are dangerous. Get the mattress pad. You'll love it.
The big screen is so cool, but damn, it's heavy!

  8. I don't have an electric mattress pad, but I feel your pain on the varying body temps at night! I've developed a theory that hot flashes generate their heat by pulling every bit of it out of my feet because they're always freezing after.

    1. I think your theory is dead on. My hair will be wet with sweat, but my feet are still cold.

  9. Hubby, who was manning the home front while I was out with the girls, was actually happy about the trick-or-treater turn-out. I remember one Halloween back in KS where he bought tons of candy to hand out but not a single kid came to our door.. Had to eat everything by himself, poor lad... ;-) Also happy that you didn't get arrested, but I did giggle a little, especially when you mentioned the company car ;-)

    1. My dad bought a bag with 250 pieces of candy (chocolate, no less!), had 20 trick or treaters, then gave us the rest of the bag. I don't need that kind of temptation! And yes, so glad we didn't get pulled over and my husband arrested for indecent exposure, even though nothing was exposed except maybe the top of his boxers!

  10. And might I add that you have the hair I have always wanted? What a great photo! xox jean

    1. Oh, Jean, thank you so much! I love this hair cut! I takes a tremendous amount of hair products to get it this straight and smooth, but it's worth it!

  11. Congrats on setting up the phone. I so want a new phone, but don't want the expense. And I am so worried that once I get it, I won't know how to work it ! Loved your story on the plastic cover !

    1. The folks at at&t make it so easy to buy that new phone! They just add $30 to your monthly bill and you walk out of there with a big ass new phone :) I FELT LIKE SUCH A DORK ABOUT THAT PLASTIC COVER!

  12. How, exactly, do you make muffins with a classroom of preschoolers? Do they actually get to touch the ingredients?
I was supposed to sub in the preschool the day of the Halloween party, but my youngest was home sick. I think I'm happy I got out of it. :)
Good for you, setting up the phone all by yourself! I'm thinking I'll be getting a new phone in the not too distant future. Mine is an iPhone4, and it's getting persnickety.

    1. Bear in mind there were only 7 kids helping me. They each got to add ingredients and take turns stirring after being heavily Magic Soaped before. I put the batter in the pans and baked it without their help.
It's a cruel teacher who asks for a sub on party day!
I can't believe your 4 is still working at all, but I'm hard on batteries, so maybe you treat them better than me. I do love my big phone! It's hard to get used to holding it, but I'll take that trade off!

  13. A lot of trick-or-treaters. We got between thirty and forty here. It has varied, depending on the year.

    1. People bring their kids to trick or treat in our neighborhood from all over the area and by the van load!

  14. 650?! We had zero come to our door. Of course, we were at the church trunk-or-treat, and when we came home we did not turn on the porch light, so that probably had something to do with it. . . We don't have lots of little kids in our neighborhood, though, so most of the houses were dark.

Your story about the plastic on the phone is definitely something I would have done. I think it took me a whole year to figure out that my dishwasher had a layer of plastic film on it that I hadn't removed!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And 650 was a light turn out! I found a sheet of plastic was covering my mom and dad's dishwasher several years after they bought it, so you can see the nut doesn't fall far from the tree!

  15. That is an amazingly large number of trick or treaters! The historic neighborhood where you live sounds like a fun place to take a walk, never mind the trick of treating. :-) Three hours of setting up the new phone sounds taxing to say the least, says one who probably has one of the oldest cell phones still in use.

    1. It's a beautiful neighborhood for walking any time of year, but it's really magical on Halloween, and I don't even LIKE Halloween! Fortunately, I am stubborn and SURE I can do anything, so once I got over the initial intimidation of all things electronic, I was determined to set that phone up BY MYSELF.

  16. 650??? We probably had about 6. Although I would totally come to your house too if you had some of those pumpkin muffins.

  17. The huge one takes some getting used to, but it's awesome to be able to see the damn thing better! I almost caved and got the regular iphone 6s, which is much bigger than the phone I already had, but, you know, old eyes....
