No ER Visits And Even More To Be Thankful For

I started out this week ready to take on the world, because I had a new can of shaving cream and a new razor. Your legs never feel any better than when you shave them using a can of shaving cream at the peak of its aerosolidity (I made that word up, but it's going to catch on, wait and see) and a shiny, new razor blade.

I shaved my left leg (I always start with my left leg), then my right leg, and I was almost done, taking one final stroke down the back of my calf, when the razor slipped a little and I removed a divot of flesh from my ankle, right at the heel, and then proceeded to bleed out what seemed to be a couple of pints of blood. When I dried myself off, my towel looked as though I had tried to clean up after a hatchet murder, and I soaked through two band-aids. All from a teeny, tiny cut on the back of my ankle.

That afternoon, I had a little incident while making a pie where I collided with a cabinet door. I'll wait while you read the story.... Feeling my pain? I had trouble doing anything all week that involved touching my head, including washing my hair, drying my hair, styling my hair, running my fingers through my hair (I didn't realize how often I do that to my bangs until it felt like an electrical shock to do so). I've also been a little flinchy all week around open cabinet doors.

I sidestepped any further mishaps until this morning. There was no school today, so I was still in my jammies and house shoes, doing my usual too many things at one time and none of them very well. I'm not sure exactly how this happened, but I walked out of my slippers a little bit as I was approaching the two steps that go from the family room up to the dining room, and next thing I knew, I was falling in slow motion, feeling and hearing each body part individually as it hit the hardwood floor. My daughter was sitting on the couch in the living room and reported that it was just one big thud to her. She asked if I were okay, and when I said I wasn't sure, she got up and came over to the doorway, saw me sitting up by this point, and decided I'd live, although I'm going to have a pretty good bruise on my hip, I have a feeling. Time will tell.

It's all about finding the thankfuls, though, and here are mine for the week:

I didn't have to visit an Emergency Room this week.

Four day work week!

Spring-like weather today, as in 75 degrees and sunshine.

My throat has been a little scratchy and my nose a little notty, but I have not developed a full-blown cold.

We did a science experiment in Pre-K this week that WORKED! Not giving it away now; you'll have to wait until the A to Z Challenge to find out the particulars.

My tulips are pushing up! It won't be long!

More new filters on Snapchat.

I participated in Ivy's Six Sentence Story link up this week. It felt good to be back.

No Emergency Room visit. Bears repeating.

I got to see a dear friend today when she was passing through town. This is the strongest woman I know, no lie. Love you more, Cindi!

And that's that! Link up your thankfuls, below!

  1. Have I mentioned that my sister calls me Grace? Everytime I get a hard bump on my head, there are really big changes happening in my life. Just wait and see. Nice of Emma to check on you, for Pete's sake.

    1. Are they POSITIVE changes? Because I wouldn't want a knock on the head AND one in real life.

  2. oh i'm on a roll FRIST yay ... because i have no life and i'm sitting on the computer trying to write, getting side track and inspired...lol

well at least no er visits that is a good week indeed... it always seems to happen that way klutzy moves or little bitty accidents come in groups lets hope you had your fair share for the year, decade, century. lol....

btw i think i mentioned this before my husband calls my klutzy moves "she surrenders to gravity" yup i just fall nothing slow motion, or trying to stop it.... however a slow-mo fall is somewhat funny..until someone gets hurt for sure .... hang in there and please proceed with caution. ")

    1. Val beat you, but you can be FRIST RUNNER-UP!
I've only been to the ER one time, and that was when I cut my finger open trying to make a cage for a bat and the doctor glued me back together.
I certainly surrendered to gravity on my dining room floor!

    1. I'm thinking helmet and knee pads would be a start.
I know the weather is a big ol' tease, but I'm going to enjoy it while it's here.

  5. This is unseasonable weather by more than 20 degrees, but at least it makes it seem as though winter won't last forever.
I don't want to spend the last 51 years of my life in a wheelchair, so I'll be careful!

  6. hey! finally! this Comment section was blocking me! And, now, I've totally forgotten the really clever (and insightful) observations I was planning on making! oh, yeah, now I remember!

Dude, don't run into shit and fall down and such, it's not good for you.

    (yeah, I know, it's a gift that I have)

    1. Somebody else had comment issues a few weeks ago, and I have no idea what to do about it, so I shall do nothing.
      You sound like my husband.

  7. No ER visit ALWAYS bears repeating. This from the woman who broke her ankle the same way as you although it wasn't slippers, it was flip flops. Also my hand in three places falling from a ONE FOOT TALL COT (sorry for the shout) and, of course, that I'm pretty sure I broke my hip once but never went to the doc. It must have been minor but the reason I think it was broken is because it took about a year to feel better. My old-lady me is already kicking me. Also YAY for tulips!

    1. I haven't ruled out breaking my hip yet. There's a hella sore spot there, and if I were a person who bruised, there would be a hella bruise as well. I chipped my shin bone a year and a half ago when I fell up the stairs carrying a rubbermaid container of books and tripped on my *ahem* flip flop. Still hurts, because I'm old and my bones are deteriorating as we speak.

  8. Yes we enjoyed your murder this week - good to have you back.
Aren't those ankle cuts the worst? They really do bleed forever. Glad you didn't need an ER trip this week, though. That's definitely a good thing.

    1. Thanks, Lisa! That story just rolled off, so I guess it was meant to be.
Ankle cuts are the WORST. It's a good thing my heel injury prevents me from wearing anything but clogs right now, or I'd be in a world of hurt with it not being flip flop season!

  9. Wow. I was a lot more accident prone until I hit my 30s and somehow I'm less so: totally knocking on wood, but grateful nonetheless. I'm so sorry all that happened. My face contorted as I read, in solidarity with empathy and hoping this week has started much better. What *is* is with shaving and ankles and bleeding like you're donating blood to the bath drain?
On another subject, I love the photo filter you used there. I checked into Snapchat once but..eh...couldn't get into it. Maybe I should try again. :)

    1. I felt so STUPID hurting myself in so many different ways. And really, can't someone invent a razor that isn't quite so deadly?
I use snapchat with my kids. And then they started doing all these goofy filters, and I'm a sucker for them, because I'm 11 inside.

  10. Dontcha just wish you could laser all your leg hair?! Damn shaving legs. Really?! How long will we have to keep doing it? Shouldn't it not grow in anymore after this many years? :D
OK. The falling down thing. Not a good habit to get into so-o-o what say we find a tai chi class to take!
I too enjoyed your return to the 6, Dyanne :)
    Hey! Nice snapchats!

    1. Yes, yes, I do. Wouldn't you think years of attempts to thwart its growth would make the hair just give up?
I fall UP stairs and always have. And because I know I'm clumsy on stairs, I always count them when I go up or down, because it forces me to concentrate on each step and makes me less likely to trip and fall. Usually works....
Glad to be back at the ol' Six Sentence Story!
