And In A Flash, It's Time For Ten Things Of Thankful

Some weeks go by agonizingly slowly. Some go by quickly. And some go by in such a blur, you wonder if you're somehow wrong and have the days mixed up. FRIDAY ALREADY?! It should only be Tuesday, but if you say so, then I'm going with it. Here's my Ten Things of Thankful:

1. My daughter's ensemble got a 1 at state music contest last weekend. Their group was made up of six freshman and sophomore girls, and they were one of only two ensembles that got a 1 at state (the other one was a quartet of juniors and seniors). Very proud of those girlies!

The talented ladies with their director.

2. Monday, I found out I was supposed to write a reflection post of my experience with the A to Z Challenge. Whoops! Reflected, wrote, and posted it, THEN found out I had until the end of the week to get it done. That would be the first A to Z post I got in WAYYY before the deadline!

3. My preschoolers have been wound for sound all week, especially Pre-K. The Pre-K class is suffering from senioritis. Only two more class days, and we're through for the year, then they're off to kindergarten in the fall. Lame ducks. But they've been good all year (mostly), so why not just let them socialize? As long as they don't get too out of control, we can just enjoy these last few days together as a class.

4. My primary class is certainly feeling their oats, as well. We did manage to make a really cute craft this week, though. We made a Rainbow Fish by painting our (wait for it) hands. They loved adding the beautiful silver scale to their fish and painting on the seaweed. They're so easily amused!

It's Rainbow Fish!

5. I'm slowly, but surely, getting caught up on A to Z reading. If I haven't gotten to all of yours yet, I WILL! I PROMISE!

6. I wrote a post this week for Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop. It's been MONTHS since I've written a post for that hop, but one of the writing prompts just called out to me, so if you want to read how I was once a killer, you can read "Mousecapades" here.

7. Ruby, my silly, sweet Ruby! Even when she spends the night bounding across the bed like Tigger, finishing up with a good, long round of chasing her tail ON THE BED RIGHT BEHIND ME, AS I AM LYING ON MY SIDE, TRYING TO SLEEP, I still lurrrrrve her so!

Perched in the middle of Ground Zero
for the preschool scrapbook project. If
I get all of it put away this week, it will
make my TToT NEXT week....

8. My daughter and I are helping with the dance recital this weekend for her old studio. So happy that Nicole asked us to help; it's so bittersweet not to be part of the recital this year, for the first time in 9 years, but this gives us a "fix" and allows us to be part of it without being part of it, if you know what I mean.

9. Hidden chocolate.

10. Turkey and bacon sandwiches. Getting ready to go have one now, at a little place over near the venue where the dance recital is being held.

Thankful for turkey and bacon sandwiches? Kittens? What? Write your Ten Things of Thankful and link them up, below. You'll love our TToT community!

  1. So glad I ate dinner, because turkey and bacon sandwiches would have so made me drool. And can't believe school is over for you pretty much. We still have to the third week of June here. We start late and end late, I suppose. Have a wonderful weekend and Happy another's Day, too.

    1. Thanks, Janine! Oh, it was a yummy sammich! Preschool is over next week, because we don't make up snow days. My daughter has to go to the end of May. We started in the middle of August, though.

  2. Come over, and I'll take you to my sammich place.

Some day, we'll look back and talk about when Ruby used to endlessly chase her tail and miss it. Or at least that's what I tell myself at 4 a.m. when she's chasing it in my bed.

Need new hiding places; my kids keep finding them.

  3. I missed my last day of school, thanks to my knee injury. It makes me sad that I didn't say goodbye.
    Congrats to your daughter's team!
I wishing had some hidden chocolate in this house.

      Thank you! They done good.
You wouldn't be able to get to it if you had it....

  4. Ahhh, dance recitals. I am glad you found a way to stay connected. The first year we had no dancers in Nutcracker after 17 consecutive Nutcrackers, we were sort of shell shocked.

    1. It was kind of tough, but when I saw all the costume changes for the advanced class, I realized what a bundle we saved by not being in dance anymore!

Hey, check your spam folder. I have commented on some of your posts and they either vanished into thin air or ended up in your spam.

  5. Ask any vegetarian what they miss most.......bacon...just the mention of the stuff....with turkey cant be bad.

    Hee fishy hands!!!!

I have chocolate strategically hidden in my office....its the only way to get one of my clients to stay a whole session.

Skip nests like that at night...m.I will miss it soon I fear.

    1. I love turkey or chicken and bacon together. So tasty!

Fishy hands turned out way cuter than I thought they were going to.

      I have nothing against bribery.

      Sweet, sweet Skipster!

  6. 'Painting' the rainbow fish is a very good idea. I feel tempted to try it doing it myself. :-)

  8. Congrats to your daughter and her group! Love the rainbow fish; I assume you also enjoyed the book together. Hidden chocolate? If you know where some might be hiding at my house, please let me know!

    1. Thank you! Musical you, I feel, knows it isn't easy to get a 1 at State, especially that young of a group.
We read the book first, then made our own. We used a clear "jewel" with a silver back to be our special silver scale.
The trick is hiding the chocolate from the rest of the family without hiding it so well you don't remember where it is.

  9. Turkey and bacon sammies. That sounds like the bomb. And your daughter must be a vocalist. How cool. Have a great Mother's Day.

    1. Thanks, Jamie. Hope you've enjoyed your day as well. The sammich WAS da bomb. Wish I had another one RIGHT NOW. And yes, my daughter is talented at many things, lucky girl!

  10. That sounds like a good sammie. Hidden chocolate makes the world go round. I do not miss teaching preschool and the end of the year loonacy. Congrats on your daughter's win. Nothing better than seeing that twinkle of success mixed with amazement when something fantastic happens.

    1. Delicious sammich. I will be sad when the Easter chocolate is all in my tummy. The end of year lunacy is out of proportion to the fact that it's just preschool, but I can't fight it. Thank you, she and her group did such a beautiful job!

  11. Can't wait to have kitties to compete with Baby Boy to keep me from sleeping. Love to see little Ruby's face whenever she has an appearance on your blog, Dyanne!! Love the Rainbow Fish craft. The girls have the book, so that may be something to think about doing with them on another rainy day.. Have a great weekend, and Happy Mother's Day to you!!

    1. Sleep is overrated, right? Ruby is cuter when she's not KEEPING ME AWAKE. I found a handprint fish on Pinterest and turned it into the Rainbow Fish. Your girls would have fun doing it after reading the book again, I'm sure. Hope your weekend was wonderful!

  12. Dyanne, I love coming to your blog and reading about what you've done with the kids each week, because it shows what a true gift you have for teaching and children. And what a Mother's Day gift to see your girl sing so beautifully!! Yee haw! A top of the world weekend, now!

  13. Congratulations to your daughter and company! That's fantastic! We have ten days of school left and I am both excited and terrified. I will miss my five hours of quiet but will be happy not to be a slave to the alarm clock and no more packing of the lunches....I despise the packing of the lunches. I will never, ever be able to catch up on the A to Z reading. There was just too much. I did, however, read Mousecapades and still want to know what the heck happened there....

    1. Thanks, Sandy! Oh, that A to Z is hard to stay on top of, isn't it? I think it's going to take me a year to get caught up on my reading, and then it will be time to start again. And I wish I knew what the heck happened with those mice. Maybe we should have 'fessed up....

  14. How to do it!!! Way to go on the challenging recital--those girls sound as if they are marvelous and exceptional. I would love to hear a tape of them sometime. I am still watching Pitch Perfect whenever it comes on TV, and I love singing. I used to think I COULD sing, until too many people requested that I cease and desist!!! I think I hit chords that only dolphins appreciate.
Love your version of the rainbow fish--it is adorable! With the bit of silver added. I love Ruby too!
I will head over and read some of your writings at the other links as soon as I can! And that is not a :"maybe"! :) xox jean

    1. Thank you, Jean! You are a dear! I tried to tape them at the concert last week, but for some reason, they sang very, very softly, and it's hard to hear. If you have nearly fifteen minutes to spare (or as much as you can stand), here's a YouTube link for a show choir competition these same girls were in: http://youtu.be/0t4hNGh7G6w I CAN sing, but I'm not a good singer. Doesn't stop me, but usually limits me to the car where no one can complain.

  15. Hidden chocolate! Like treasure!
I think everyone's counting down the days. I found a count on one of the white boards at Kindergarten orientation. I so remember this time of year as a teacher. And someday I will experience it again.
    Mmmm, turkey and bacon...

    1. Four more days for me, two with each class, then pre-k graduation and BAM - done! What a fast year! And they were all broken in and everything!

  16. Pretty sure I would be easily amused and entertained in your preschool class with all those fun art projects! Pets have a funny way of doing some of the most annoying things yet being so incredibly cute while they do it. God must have made pets with cute dust or something.

Glad you and your daughter were able to participate in the recital. I bet it felt like a homecoming for both of you.

Chocolate, hidden or not, is always a blessing!

  17. I miss doing art with little ones; when I worked in child care, that was my favorite part. I always wished I could just do the art and leave, and let someone else change diapers and suck up to demanding parents. =) I smiled when I read that the PreK kids have 'senioritis'! Cute!!
Ruby is such a pretty kitty.
    Turkey and bacon?? Mmmmm.....

  18. That Rainbow Fish is ADORABLE! Good for you letting them socialize, this time of year is hard for any age to concentrate, I can't even imagine PreK!
Thank all the gods for chocolate, it gets us through the toughest times...and the happiest :)

  19. Oh that rainbow fish!! TOO cute for words! And I want a turkey bacon sandwich now- thankyouverymuch.

I love how involved and invested you are in SO MUCH! So happy for your daughter and I know the feeling about recitals and helping and not being there this year. I used to help coordinate the recitals for years when my daughter danced... and this year we opted out of dance to swim. They called and asked if I could still help, and I felt awful- but just couldn't do it. It is a huge part of our lives gone now...

And so we move on... into the next season...as it should be. BUT I am still in contact with the precious souls who lead this dance organization, and will always be friends and have a special bond with them!!
