I've Had A Fantastic Week. You?

It's the weekend, and time for another edition of (ta ta TAHHHHH!) Ten Things of Thankful! This has been a fantastic week. FANTASTIC, I tell you! Here's how:

1. Preschool started this week, so it's back to school I go. I work in the best preschool in town (no lie). We have classes for toddlers through pre-k that meet two or three mornings a week, we have a staff of thirteen who all get along famously, I get to have snack and recess, and I look forward to going to work every day. How many of you can say that?

2. My pre-k class, which meets on MWF mornings, is a lively group and very social (that means they talk a lot when they're supposed to be listening). But they are so excited to be at preschool that right now, it's still cute and endearing.

3. On the first day of school, I was waiting in the hallway outside the bathroom for one of my boys to do his thing, and when he came out, he said, "You're a nice teacher!"

4. I have eleven kiddos in my T/TH primary class (with one opening if anyone wants to send their 3 year old to preschool). We've spent the week learning to line up, stand in a line, and WALK IN A LINE. It's pretty much like herding cats, but there was improvement from Tuesday to Thursday, so I have hope we'll be able to do it one of these days. I'm shooting for October 1.

5. One of my primary students thinks she is going to "pretty" school instead of "pre" school. How can you not love that?!

6. My daughter's freshman volleyball team won their season opener against an arch rival (JV and Varsity lost their games). They also won two days later at their home opener. ROCK ON, FRESHMAN LADY EAGLES!

7. My birthday was this week, and I was thoroughly spoiled with birthday phone calls (including a singing one from my person and her daughter), texts, emails and Facebook messages. I loved being an attention ho!

8. The preschool staff draws "secret sister" names at the beginning of each school year, and we get little gifts throughout the year for each other. When I walked into school on my birthday, I found a Sonic Diet Coke and a Turtle Molten Cake Sundae. Best. Breakfast. EVER. I also received a chevron-print fabric basket with all kinds of fun stuff in it, including what I thought was a fan (thinking ha ha, hot flash joke), but what turned out to be stays to shore up the basket and make it sturdier, which has probably caused my secret sister to die a little inside, since she probably heard me TELLING everyone it was a fan and couldn't correct me. I didn't figure out the little package had stays in it until I got home and pulled them out and tried to unfurl them into a fan; instead, I had a handful of slats, which I puzzled over for several minutes before figuring it out.

Yes, it tastes as good as it looks.

9. My birthday ended with a trip to Andy's Frozen Custard with my husband and daughter after the volleyball game, where I indulged in a Choc-O-Rocko concrete. It was an ice creamy day!

10. The best thing to be thankful for this week (other than the first home football game last night that we won and which WOULD have been #10 had something more important not come up) is that my friend Cindi's husband received a double lung transplant yesterday. He has been waiting since about February until a pair of lungs became available. He went into surgery mid-afternoon on Friday and was out about six hours later. He had a good night resting in the ICU and today, the plan is to get him up and walking and get him off the vent. What a miracle of medicine! A special thank you goes to the donor's family, whose generous gift has made others live.

That's my week. Your turn. LINK 'EM UP, BUTTERCUP!

    1. Thank you! A concrete is like Dairy Queen Blizzard. Does that help?

  3. Yep, I can vouch for the excellence of that pre-school. And, yes, I want to attend pretty school. Glad you had a happy birthday - especially since the girls won both their games this week! :-)

    1. Why, yes, you CAN vouch for the preschool! Or pretty school. And it was an excellent birthday, especially sending you snarky texts during the volleyball game!

  4. Yeah, I felt like a complete idiot when I realized I did not have a fan in my hand but little slats that fit into pockets in the basket to strengthen it.

  5. It WAS a great week! Um, did that molten come from Sonic? I shall have to track a sonic down. I think there is one in Louisville, KY. :)
Glad you are enjoying your new students. They're talking that much already? Ours are usually silent for at least a day or 2.

Congrats to your daughter and her team!!

    1. Yes, that was Sonic. YOU DON'T HAVE SONIC IN INDY?! You really do need to come to Missouri some time :)

Oh, yes, both classes are very chatty. Very. VERY. There is going to be some strip pulling in their future (pre-k anyway - I don't do that with the primary kiddos). I fear Mr. Sad Chair may get a warming or two before they realize I mean business.

And thank you! The volleyball wins were very sweet for them. They're bound to get their clocks cleaned at some point, but at least they're off to a good start.

    2. Mr. Sad Chair? Ha!

I'm sure there's a sonic on the north side. The north side of Indy has everything. That's where the "pretty" people live. I rarely go there.

    3. Then your only alternatives are to drive to Louisville or here. I'd prefer here.

  6. sounds like a good, active and forward moving week!

(no! wait a minute! that didn't make sense even to me! lol )

happy post birthday... it is good to see a person simply enjoy a good week. not that everyone else did not... but your post has more of that positive energy than most (at least for this week).

I can can imagine the scene of line walking lessons for your class! (question: do you let them stray a little out line before corralling (or whatever the correct term is) or is it an on-going process?

congrats to your daughter and the team... winning may not be everything, but it is still real fun.

    1. I noticed how many of our TToT entries started out by saying what a bad week they had had. Makes me feel a little guilty that mine was so great!

Just imagine trying to get 11 cats to line up and walk down a hallway. That's what it's like trying to get 3 year olds to do the same thing. We corral as we go, so there is much starting and stopping. Fortunately, I have an assistant teacher at the back of the line, so I only have to keep the front half together. Stairs are the WORST.

It was a terrific ego boost to the girls to win their first game when JV and Varsity lost theirs.

    2. They'll get it pretty soon. Okay, 8 out of 11 will get it pretty soon. Jury's still out on three of them :)

I love the "pretty school" comment.

#10 is so fantastic! Best wishes for your friend's husband's recovery.

    1. Thanks, Kristi!

Isn't "pretty school" darling? First time in 13 years that I've heard that one!

#10 is going to be a long road, but he's very strong and determined. I think he'll do well.

    1. I seem to be in a minority of people this week who had a GREAT week.

    2. Mine wasn't that bad! Just a little stressful!

  9. Not much tops receiving a lung transplant. Or being told you were a nice teacher.

    1. The lung transplant is amazing. He has a long road ahead of him, but he'll get there.

Being told I'm a nice teacher really IS tops! I hope he feels the same way by the last day of school!

  10. Oh preschool teachers absolutely have the best jobs! And when you work with a staff that gets along so swimmingly that makes it even better. Those kiddos come up with some funny (and usually true) stuff. And they keep you on your toes too. I hearded cats in my life as a preshool teacher (meaning I had the 3's exclusively)...such a fun age!

Glad you had an ice-creamy day...those are the best. Happy birthday (again!)

Praying for Cindi's husband! Thanks for sharing!

    1. I wish I could share all of the things they say! They come up with some doozies!

Thanks for praying for David. I know he and Cindi appreciate it.

  11. Ooh, I love #10! 13 years ago, my nephew (age 10 then) had a liver transplant, so this is a topic near & dear to my heart! Praying for your friend's husband...

  12. happy birthday to yoooooou! :)

your job sounds both fun and terrifying. my son is 21 months and while he is adorable and a lot of fun, i can't imagine trying to corral a GROUP of toddlers/preschoolers all at once, much less try to get them to actually listen to me. my hat is off to you :)

    1. Right back atcha, birthday week buddy! You notice that you and I are about the only ones this week who had disgustingly cheerful TToT entries? That's right, the birthday girls rocked their week!

  14. GAH! I missed your birthday! :( Happy Belated Birthday! I won't ask what you turned... though there may be a post I'll stumble across telling me.

While going to Sonic I saw that dessert on the menu and I think I will have to try it. I love the Brownie Supreme from Perkins and that looks like a smaller version. I love brownies!

It's great you love work so much and have such awesome co-workers! It can be pretty rare when so many people can get along so well.

So happy or your friend's husband! I really hope his recovery work goes smoothly :-)

Your week was indeed action packed with Thankfulness!

    1. If you read the post before this one, you will know how old I am.

Definitely get the turtle molten cake sundae from Sonic. If you can tear yourself away from the shakes, that is.

You are completely correct - this week was chock full of thankful!
