R is for Really? A Blogging Rant

You ever have those moments when you just want to sit back and say, "Really? I mean, REALLY?"

Here's one of mine:

Wordpress hates me. HAAAATES me. It won't publish any of my comments on WP blogs. I have no idea how long it's been going on, but definitely for the past two weeks or so, maybe longer.

I went to the Wordpress site and looked for a way to contact them for help.

There isn't one. The only thing I can do, according to WP, is check their forums and see if I can find the same problem listed. First of all, like I have the patience for that. Second of all, THANKS FOR ALL THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT, WORDPRESS. YOU'RE A PEACH.

My friend Lizzi suggested I sign up for a Wordpress account, and then maybe, just MAYBE, WP would quit being so snarky with me.

Fail.

Then, I decided I would comment, then send an e-mail to each WP blogger on whose posts I made a (disappearing) comment and let them know to check their spam folders and kindly fish my comment out. (I did learn something in this whole debacle: I HAVE A SPAM FOLDER. News to me!)

Do you have any idea how hard it is to find an email address on some folks' blogs? If they have a Google Plus button, then I contacted them that way, but very few blogs include an email address, mine included (but which I just remedied...). Mine will also get a Google Plus button as soon as I figure out how to do it.

So, I say, "REALLY, Wordpress? REALLY?!"

All I want to be is a mannerly blogger, and Wordpress is making me look like a bloghole, both in the A to Z Challenge, where the biggest challenge is currently POSTING A DAMN COMMENT to my obligations as a co-host of the best weekly blog hop evah, Ten Things of Thankful (and if you are a blogger and are reading this and not already a participant in TToT, WHY AREN'T YOU? It's fun!).

If you are IT savvy AND can talk to me like someone whose sum total of IT knowledge would fit onto the head of a pin, then I would welcome your suggestions as to how to fix this comment purgatory in which I find myself.

If you are a Wordpress blogger, I first must ask WHY and then ask that you check the spam folder that I didn't know you had and see if you can find my comments in there.

In the meantime, I will sit in my little blog corner and feel left out and sad.

Really, Wordpress?

And now, since there is no visual for this post, I will offer you a picture of something else that starts with "R": my precious baby girl Ruby.

Blogger has the same system and in my book is responsible for the miserable crash my blog sustained about a month or two ago ... It killed my following and readership... I have a about 80-100 on a good day at the new address... while the old one was 3-400 hits daily... BLOGGER HATES ME and has made me reconsider this whole bloggy thing... I think I am just going to close down and restart new with a new server... Maybe wordpress! LOL!

  2. It amazes me when bloggers don't have their email address on their blog somewhere. What if someone wants to do something amazing for/with you??

    1. I guess I assumed my email address was on mine somewhere, but it wasn't. NOW it is! Just think of the amazing things I've probably missed out on!

  3. First, I am glad that Jak told me to go check out my spam folder because LOW AND BEHOLD it was full of Dyanne comments. You were the only one that actually wasn't SPAM.

Second, I personally love Wordpress. I have a ton of less issues with formatting than Jak seems to have. And, from what I know, it is a lot easier to convert your blog into a full site since Wordpress offers the service.

Third, My initial thought was perhaps Wordpress thinks "Iwantbacksies" was some sort of dirty link, but then I realized you have used your email too.

Fourth, Ruby is a a great way to end the post!

    1. 1. I'm being dumped in everyone's spam folders with the porn and game cheats spam!
      2. See "head of a pin" reference, above :)
      3. I never once thought of Iwantbacksies as sounding naughty, but I guess it kind of could be considered that. But what took wp so long to think that?
      4. Ruby is ALWAYS a great way to end a post!

  4. Dyanne, I am a wordpress blogger and I've gotten all your comments. You are a great commenter--specific and positive. I believe I replied to each one as well. So, it's not an issue on my wordpress site. Gail at Making Life An Art

    1. I'm glad to know that I make it past your spam folder, Gail! I adore your blog, so keep checking your spam folder if you don't hear from me for awhile. And thank you for the commenting compliment! I truly appreciate hearing that!

  5. Hmmm. I just posted on your site and I think it disappeared! How ironic! I said that I've received all your wonderful comments on my wordpress blog and I believe I've replied to each one. You are a terrific and supportive blogger! Gail at Making Life An Art

    1. It was there! I have comment moderation on, because when you talk about boobies, you get a lot of weird spam. REAL spam.

  6. I've had a handful of weird stuff happening with comments and such on my blog and with my comments on a few others. Ah, technology!

    1. I guess I shouldn't complain so much about something that's basically free, but STILL.

  7. This made me laugh! Sorry! I will go check my spam folder....
Wordpress has some neat features that Blogger does not, but the main reason I switched over was that when it was time to renew my custom domain through blogger, it would NOT let me and like you mentioned with WP - ZERO customer support. I got an error message each time I tried to renew and there was absolutely no solution to be found. I gave up!

    1. When I decided to start a blog, in my usual fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants way, I Googled "most user friendly blog sites" and it was pretty unanimous that it was Blogger. So that's the way I went. If I ever start getting error reports and problems like Zoe has had, I'll just have to quit, because I know nothing about nothing!

  8. I've had this page up so long, there was no comments yet made. I wanted to post believing that I was the first one to respond after days, but I've learned my comments vanish if I go that route. It's weird.

I'm glad you emailed me, and that the Ladyfolk was able to dredge up all your toxic spam! There was a lot of it. That has to suck, though, and I've no idea why WP would suddenly deem you spamable. I don't think I've ever experienced a similar issue with Blogger. Like said above, though, I have issues with formatting being wonky between Google Drive and Blogger, which is ridiculous.

Anyhow, I hope things have settled and it's figured out. Ruby looks so cute!
