Circle Time, reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar and discussing the life cycle of the butterfly:
Me: The caterpillar hatches from an egg, then it eats leaves and grows and then makes a chrysalis. A butterfly emerges from the chrysalis and soon it lays eggs. And what comes out of the eggs the butterfly laid?
3 year old boy: A baby butterfly!
4 year old boy: A caterpillar!
4 year old girl: A chick!

Circle Time, same class, different day:
Me: What month is it?
4 year old girl: June!
4 year old boy: May!
4 year old girl: Thursday!
(The correct answer was April.)

Music Teacher: Who knows what the Bible word this week is? Under-- Under--?
4 year old boy: Pressure?
(The correct answer here would be understanding.)

3 year old girl: I went poop on the potty! High five!
Me: Wait. Did you wash your hands?
3 year old girl: Yes.
Me: Really well?
3 year old girl: Yes.
Me: High five!

3 year old girl: You have to eat salad, because it makes your poop better.
Me: Well, yes, it does.
3 year old girl: Why does it hurt when I poop?
Me: Because you don't eat your salad.

At table time:
4 year old girl: You want to know what I want to be when I grow up?
Me: What do you want to be?
4 year old girl: Well, since you 're so good at teaching, I want to be a teacher!
Best. Job. Ever.

Thanks! They are funny little creatures.
DeleteTouched on reading this. Such cute answers . Would love to be in such class for a day
ReplyDeleteWell, come visit! I'll make sure to do a really messy art project while you're there (something involving paint), plus let you have bathroom duty! You'll get to hear a lot of stories!
Deleteawwwwwwwwwwwww
ReplyDeleteI know, right?
DeleteNice. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank YOU. We have a lot of fun.
DeleteThey make me laugh every day!
ReplyDeleteAww this is awesome. I love the Under pressure one --- it was the perfect response while in music class!
ReplyDeleteI love your response to the little girl who used the potty. I can see Jak doing that too.
I wonder, just how many times you smile and laugh a day -- because these sorts of conversations, it must make for an awesome job. And you are so good at it, you have even inspired a little one to follow in your foot steps. We all remember what our little selves wanted to be when we grow up. I am sure she will remember her dream, and you, too.
I remember reading mum's magazines and I used to go straight to the 'out of the mouths of babes' page... I've had the poop conversation with lots of kids and I think I wanted to be a teacher for the same reason the 4 year old girl in your post did :)

This made me smile ! Thank you !
ReplyDeletePreschoolers are THE best.
ReplyDeleteJust curious...have you been listening to Queen in your classroom, b/c "Under Pressure" is not a typical response for a 4yo. And now because it may already be in your head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a01QQZyl-_I&feature=kp
GAH! What is the answer to the first question?! A chick?!
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm not going to mince words here, lady. The last two posts were discussing Victoria's Secrets and panties, followed by "watersports", so I was expecting a different caliber of "babe", know what I mean...? I was like, oh snap, Dyanne is going b@!!$ deep and watching the sexy time channel and it's share time in class...
Despite the blatantly intentional deception, this was a very cute post. I love all the random things kids say. They are so hilarious!
