Ten Things Of Thankful: Spring Edition

It's spring! It's spring! It's finally spring! After what seemed to be an interminable winter, spring has finally sprung!

Note: Mother Nature isn't completely through with us, yet. A cold front is in the forecast for Sunday night, bringing temperatures down to the upper 20s by Monday night with a chance of a wintry mix, but IT WON'T LAST, BECAUSE IT'S SPRIIIIIING!

Here's my Ten Things of Thankful, Spring Edition:

1. The daffodils and forsythia are still in bloom, slowly giving way to tulips and phlox. The iris leaves are up and should be blooming before too long.

2. There is green grass, unless you have that ugly zoysia like we do, which is the last to turn green in the spring and the first to turn brown in the fall. But OTHER people have green grass!

3. Green grass brings lawn mowing. I LOOOOOVE the smell of freshly cut grass!

4. It's light in the evenings!

5. The mornings are still dark, but the days are definitely getting longer, and soon we'll have sunny mornings AND evenings.

6. Open windows.

7. Kitties in open windows.

Fletcher and Ruby, bird watching

8. Flip flops and capri-length pants.

9. The traditional putting away of the winter clothes has been completed.

10. I recently received a super cool prize from the delightful Sarah Summerlin of Amycake and the Dude for winning the Name The Owner Of The Green Eyes contest here

Get it? COOL PRIZE? ICE CUBE TRAY? And they're butterflies! MORE SPRING STUFF TO ENJOY!

How's Spring treating you? Count to ten and put 'em right here.

  1. Us too! We are supposed to get light snow this week. WTF? You are ahead of us though. I just saw teenie tiny green buds poking out of the ground and you can see the buds in the trees but it still looks baron here. Boo mother nature!
PS. Those ice cube trays are a b*tch to keep the water in. We have fish ones and the water spills all over the place before it meets the freezer. Maybe I'm doing it all wrong :)

    1. Mother Nature does not play nice. We just had a nasty thunderstorm move through with extremely high winds, but no tornado warnings - yay! The cold front is following it. Cold and rainy all day tomorrow, with the only good news that it will hopefully cancel the soccer pictures I am supposed to help with tomorrow evening!

Thanks for the head's up on the ice cube trays. When I spill water everywhere, I will hear you say "I told you so" in my head :)

    1. I don't think I could take it if we still had snow on the ground in the middle of April! Even our worst snows don't last more than a couple of days. Anxiously awaiting the blooming of the pink dogwood between my house and my neighbors' (it's right outside my bedroom window, so I like to pretend its mine). The buds are just about to pop.

  3. I read "bringing temperatures down to the upper 20s” and thought - “But that’s warm!” Then I remembered y’all do farenheight (which I can’t spell any more, since even after 3 attempts there’s a red line!)
I also love the smell of newly cut grass. And love the kitties too.

    1. Upper 20s = cold. This time of year, upper 50s = cold. What does that translate to in celsius? Would 50 C be like 100 F? Gahh! Too much math!

I always think of you when I put in a picture of Ruby!

  4. Love the ice cube tray! IKEA had some awesome ones last year, so I have little flowers floating in my iced tea now :-) Happy that spring has arrived with you, too! On my way to work, I see tiny little wild-growing tulips blooming randomly in the middle of some lawns, so pretty!! Hope you have a great new week with more spring!!

    1. Hi, Karen! Thanks for visiting and hurrah for spring! On my way to visit your blog.

You should think about joining our TToT hop next week (because the A to Z just isn't enough writing for one week - egad!).

  6. Isn't it?!

I understand nothing about your weather. I thought you were further north than we are, so it makes no sense to me that you have better weather.

  7. GREAT ice tray! I love it and congratulations on winning it!

I don't get tired of hearing all of these Spring posts from all my folks who had to deal with that horrid winter. Capris and flip flops? Most definitely things to be thankful for....not to mention the flowers!!
Ah, there's my Ruby :) Ruby and Skip, my favorite internet pets!

  8. Expressing thankfulness is so uplifting. I can hear the lilt in your voice, see the spring in your step, and the smile on your lips as you count your blessings here.

    1. That's lovely! There's so much to be thankful for, if you just look around. Even in a bad week, there's always something, even if it's just an electric pencil sharpener (which I have, indeed, listed before).

  9. Congratulations on your win! Butterfly ice cubes--how cool is that? Perfect for spring! (You should color the water, or use colorful fruit juice, before you freeze them.)

    1. I was remembering my mom making Kool-aid ice cubes for us when I was a kid. Maybe I'll try that....

  10. Your prize couldn't have been more perfect (although I guess it could have been green for the eyes and grass)...but,hey...you won!! Congratulations! Things are greening and blooming and budding up in northern Indiana as well...hoorah! Can't wait to get in the dirt and tend the garden!

    1. I WON! I WON! I WON!

Isn't it wonderful to look out and see that greenish haze on the trees, proving that winter really is over?

  11. Totally behind you on Items #4 and #6 and #8* feline window decoration seems to go well with the season (I should get a photo of Una as she is small enough to sit on the back of the love seat that is at the front window… dueling domestic family members)

    * well, not the capri things… and though I used to the flip flops, settle for leaving the socks at home...

    1. Do dogs get IN windowsills? I've never had a dog.

There was much bliss and kitty harmony when they both shared the window, which was good, because if they got into a tussle in the window, I fear the screen would pop out and they both would tumble down two floors to the ground.

Heyyyy, by the way, unless you are blocking me on purpose (ahem), Wordpress won't let me post messages on your blog. Are they going in your spam or just vanishing or do you have any idea?

    2. what the hell? I don't know...not in spam that I can see, and you were able to post comments before... Christine and Lizzi seemed to have run into something like this a few months ago, but it went away.
